I have 3 cats to be looked after whilst I'm away, but dont need to worry about rent as it's my Dad's apartment and he owns it outright. I've never been overseas but am worried about getting homesick and not being able to work. I am seeking work at the moment and it would be good to get away. But I'll really miss the cats and my family and friends. Pays $500 AUD per week and includes meals accom. and flights to and from ports. I need to pay my own visa and vaccination approx. $350 AUD. The 1st journey for up to 6 mths departs just before christmas. I'm a little scared as i've never been overseas before.

I don't know about you, but I would jump at the opportunity to do that! I would love the travel and meeting new people. six months passes WAY fast. I would hire someone to look after the cats and be off.

good luck to you and your decision

I was a dancer/bartender on Princess Cruise Lines for 3 years, and LOVED it!! It was the best experience of my life, meeting new people every few days, and the travel was awesome. I never got tired of being there. I went on trips to Alaska, Caribbean, and French riviera trips( which were the best). The only reason I left was, I met my wife...on one of the cruises, and a few months later, we moved in together and got married, that was 5 years and 2 children ago, so I would say, if you can stand being away from your cats and family for a while, you should not pass it up, could change your life like it did mine. People pay a great deal of money to go on these cruises for the food and travel, you will be getting paid to do that....go for it, you won't regret it.

You should ask them if you can take a FAM trip. This will give you time to shadow a person and see how you feel on a ship. I work for a line, but in the offices. I know lots of people that go back and forth. They work in the office then they are gone for 3 - 6 months.

all the other answers say go. i would think long and hard about it. like you said, you could get very homesick, your cats may have nothing to do with you when you come home. i've been on several cruises(as a passenger) and those people really work hard. i always talk to the crew and from what they tell me, they work a lot of hours without a day off. i know it sounds very exciting now, but give it a lot of thought. whatever you decide, i wish you well.

Seems that nothing exciting is happening andthat it will change your life. You'll be a lot more rounded; who konows what will happen. Dont worry about friends, youll be working with others all day and given the fact that you are all living on the ship, theyll always be someone around.

Have a little fun and take a little chance

You need to really think about it, when I was on a cruise I got to talk to a few employees and I asked them a few questions. You will have to work 24/7 every day you can go off ship on your time off but no days off. Share bunk to dorm style room with other people and be expected to be cheerful with a smile no matter what or how you feel.
