I am a police officer and i must admit the majority of the law is on the criminals side. Day by day i lock people up and hardly anything seems to be done with them.
In relation to laws about knives it states that a knife with a lock blade of 3 inches or more is classed as illegal. Anything smaller you can carry without probs. In my view an instrument that is purposely carried for attack of a form of defence however small should be classed as illegal.

The margin on combat knives (though they can not be advertised as such) is stupidly high. You can buy them wholessale for £2.50 and sell them at £25 +
Personally I like the idea of all combat style knives above 3" in blade length being registered at point of sale with a photo ID (passport/driving licence etc.) -- the registration would be such that the knife could be linked to the type of injury it would cause.
And that a non-registered sale would be liable for summary conviction to 6 months or an indictment of 2 years.
It would be easier for the Police to do their job, or protecting us from people with criminal intent, if they had a crib sheet of likely suspects to hand.
So yes I think the laws can be improved.
But there is also the question of what weapons are being carried, or made use of. Are they combat style, utility, or kitchen ware knives casuing the injuries?

The law and its implication are two different things.
You need the first for the second to enforce it.
You need the riches to provide the men to enforce it.
In 2020 it is estimated the people who work for the authorities will be taking 83% of the G.N.P.
10% of the population taking 80% of the U.K.'s balance after trading with the rest of the world.
What to do?
Work harder and longer and halve imports.
The police don't have time to do much else these days after they give some Five Minute Wonder the ammunition to boast with in the House of Commons.
Its the age old problem. Do as I say but I can't pay.

Why do people equate LAW with the POLICE? Police DO NOT make the law. They uphold it.
The police can put the same offender before the court time and time and time and time again before they ever get sent to prison.
Don't always blame the police. Blame the judicial system, the government and the early release from prison of many prisoners because the prisons are too full.

I agree with big g, when he says that carrying a knife (even shorter than 3 inches) shouldn't be acceptable, afterall didnt they bring down the planes on 9/11 with tiny razor blades!
