Shareware is software that you share with others, but it COSTS money and Freeware is totally free.
Companies that use Shareware have hopes to make some money. They also want to HOOK YOU INTO using their product and want upgrades. Companies that make Freeware have no interest in making money with that specific product, but provide it for FREE, so that you might take an interest in one of their regular products.
I personally hate the HOOK of Shareware. I hate trials, I hate lies that make you think that it might be free. So I recommend that you get your downloads from http://www.download.com and read the full description and read the reviews. You see, even freeware might have a HOOK, and the reviews will tell you that.

Freeware is generally the full version of the program for free and shareware is the demo or full version in trial mode. Usually shareware is a waste of time unless you are planning on buying the software later.

Shareware means pay-for software.
Usually with one of the following:
1. Expiration
2. Nagging
3. Lack of function on some level
4. Or all of the above combined.
Some shareware continues to fully function with one nag per start of the application after its trial expires. Legally this should be registered (paid-for) after that point or uninstalled.
Example: mIRC @ http://mirc.stealth.net
Freeware is just free.
As one user here indicated some freeware has missing features as apposed to the 'full' &/or 'better' version that can be purchased. This is true.
A lot of freeware developers do ask or will accept donations. (w/out a nag or limitation on the software) - *That doesn't make it shareware*
As an example
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Spybot is a freeware application. However if you click the link above you will notice they ask for a donation before downloading. *That doesn't make it shareware*

well friend
Shareware is a marketing method for commercial software, whereby a trial version is distributed in advance and without payment, as is common for proprietary software. Shareware software is typically obtained free of charge, either by downloading from the Internet or on magazine cover-disks. A user tries out the program, and thus shareware has also been known as "try before you buy", demoware, trialware and by many other names. A shareware program is accompanied by a request for payment, and the software's distribution license often requires such a payment. Payment is often required once a set period of time has elapsed after installation.
WHEREAS
Freeware is copyrighted computer software which is made available for use free of charge, for an unlimited time, as opposed to shareware where the user is required to pay (e.g. after some trial period).
The only criterion for being classified as "freeware" is that the software must be made available for use for an unlimited time at no cost. The software license may impose one or more other restrictions on the type of use including personal use, individual use, non-profit use, non-commercial use, academic use, commercial use or any combination of these. For instance, the license may be "free for personal, non-commercial use." There is some software that may be considered freeware, but that have limited distribution; that is, they may only be downloaded from a specific site, and they can not be redistributed. Hence, these software wouldn't be freely redistributable software. According to the basic definition, that software would be freeware; according to stricter definitions, they wouldn't be.
THANK YOU !!!!!!

shareware allows you limited functional & can expire after a period of time after which you would need to buy the full version. Freeware is complete versions of the program. Both are totally free & can be shared & copied legally by anybody

Shareware is a program that the creator would like to get donations for developing. Whereas freeware is absolutely free, without the developer begging for any monies.

Shareware can be used for a limited time (10-30 days) and then it either stops working or reduced in functionality.
Freeware is free, what you download, always works.
