I breastfed my son up until a month ago. Now when we are out in public, he reaches for my nipples and puts his face in my bosom when he is hungry. Also when other women hold him, he does the same thing to them. It's sort of embarassing. How do I get him to stop? Thanks for comments.

Well, he will quit eventually, but don't make to big of a deal out of it or it will just encourage his behaviour. And don't be embarrased because it's a normal response and you'll make him feel guilty for something he doesn't deserve to feel guilty for. You didn't say how old he is, so it's hard to say what kind of response you should have. You need to carry something with you to offer him when he's hungry (sippy cup, food, etc.) If he's old enough to respond to your directions you need to pull him aside and tell him gently not to do it anymore. Tell him that you don't do that anymore and if he's hungry he can have the cup, or some crackers, or whatever you have.

I had the same prblem with my three boys. What worked best for me was every time they did it i just very calmly and gently removed thier hand or shifted their heads and told them that they could'nt do that. I takes a while but if you have patience and are consistant they will stop. Just make sure you stay calm and explain to them why they can't do it anymore. Remember they are at such a young age they really don't get that they are doing something that makes you or other people uncomfortable. that's just always been their comfort zone. I like the comment about just explaining to others that you are weaning, some people wouldn't make that quick connection. Good Luck

I breastfed all three of my children until they were all 5 months old, I didn't really have any problems with them trying to latch on to me after I stopped or on any body else, I think he will probably just grow out of it and I'm sure no body will mind what he is doing they will all understand, just don't give him any attention when he does it and he will soon get the message, just gently pull him away and give him the bottle.
Good luck and best wishes for the future with your son x

Babies instinctively see breasts as a food source. And most women who have had chilredn won't be offended in the slightest by this.

You may have weaned him too early...he may like the comfort of nursing. Make sure when you're giving him a bottle he's in a nursing like position and all comfy and cozy with you. This will make him feel safe and secure.

That is adorable! You are not alone sweetie my daughter will be 5 and she still does that.I breast fed her till age 2 and i am now breast feeding twins and she is so jealous that they get to breast feed and she can't. Even at age 5 she finds anyones breast comforting. There really isnt anything wrong with that. Some kids have a blanky,or something thatcomforts them and fot your chid its breasts.Eventually he will stop just try not to react t him and maybe that will work.Dont be embarassed just warn whoever holds him. You know you have a problem if he's still doing that at 16!!!!

My son was breastfed for a year. He did that occasionally for maybe a month or so after he weaned (which he weaned himself). Don't be embarrassed, your son is only doing what he knows. Maybe your son wasn't ready to wean yet? It's comforting to a baby and anything about mommy soothes him. I wouldn't stress over it. He may be doing that when he is stressed and needs comfort.

I have no advice to stop this but I have learned not to be embarrassed about it. Those that matter know I breastfeed my son and those who don't can obviously see that he is only two years old and kids do these things. If anyone is offended by it, it is their problem.

At that age it is hard to make them understand to not do it. You will probably have to just wait it out until he realizes that he is just absolutely not going to get anymore breastmilk no matter what he tries. I noticed that my daughter was less likely to do the same whenever she was already full on cows milk (at 14 months).

My kids did this to me also. I would just tell them no and quickly offer them a cup of milk or a snack. This only lasted for about 3 or 4 weeks then they completely stopped.
If you child does this to your female friends just say your in the process of weening and give a quick apology. Quickly offer your child a drink or snack to divert his or her attention.

Infants are naturally drawn to breasts... even bottle fed babies do it sometimes... I wouldn't worry about it too much.. he will stop eventually... and don't be embarrassed.. most other woman will understand that he is just a baby and that is what hungry babies do. There is really not much you can do to get him to stop though..
