A common law partner is defined by the Canadian government as someone who you have been residing with in a spousal relationship for 6 months or more, or someone with whom you have a child. Since that doesn't seem to apply to you, it seems marriage would be the option you are looking for. Talk to someone at immigration, I'm sure they'll have the information you need.
