I was kinda wondering- what with the strict rules on plants and fruits, and reading about the shortsighted introduction of the mongoose, I wonder if cats are allowed on the islands? No, I'm not thinking of bringing one.

Yes, I like Lilo and Stitch too, but that is a cartoon. I generally do not get my facts and information from cartoons though. Kinda why I'm asking it here. but thanks for answering.

Lots and Lots - - - there have been cats since the earlist British and Yankee sailors started landing on Hawai'i'an shores. Visit Ala Moana Beach part you will find beach cat who get treats of fish entrails from fishing folk. Go inland to the grassy stretch around the Water Tank on Alapai above downtown - -there is acolony of ferral cats. 'Well meaniing' sorts feed colonies of cats all over O'ahu.
CATS are symbols of Good Luck 88% of all businesses on O'ahu have one or even dozens of Oriental Ceramic Cats with one paw raised for luck, Often painted Gold or White they are a wonderful sight.
Want proof there are cats in Hawai'i? Go into any Wal or K-Mart and check out have much dry & canned food and kitty litter is availible. Cats are truly beloved in Hawai'i unlike parts of the Midwest where friends tell me horror stories about what it is legal and encouraged to do to cats.
Peace....

yes there are cats in Hawaii. But oddly enough while I was driving around Oahu, I saw like 4 or 5 dead cats on the side of the road in a day. It was an oddly high amount. Don't know if I saw a live cat there though.

Yup, we got CATS. Eeyoo, even the musical "Cats" came once. But yeah, cats are everywhere. There are swarms of feral cat clans roaming every neighborhood. Animals that are NOT allowed: snakes, hamsters, ferrets, gerbils. We have snakes in the zoo, but I've never even seen a hamster or gerbil!
I think the quarrantine time was lowered to 30 days. And you gotta prove the thing isn't carrying rabies.

If you want to believe and see cats on Oahu, go to Pearlridge mall. Nearby the California Pizza Kitchen, theres a large sort of drainage canal. There are tons of stray cats hanging out there! People leave them catfood and stuff.
There are no snakes allowed in Hawaii though...

Cats are allowed. There is a 90 day quarantine period I believe to prevent rabies. They will need a kennel facility upon arrival on island and a complete health check 10 days prior to arriving.

There are some Legislative State Statutes that refer to domestic pets which include cats so I would presume that cats are allowed in the state. However their may be some revisions that require animals to be spayed or neutered.

I know my sister who lives there has cat's (and bunnies). I know she didn't bring them there. She got them once she was there. If she had brought them there from the mainland or elsewhere there would have been a quarantine period.
