while a dependence upon reason, observation, and experience merits everlasting pain, is too abusrd for refutation, and can be believed only by that unhappy mixture of insanity and ignorance called 'faith.' " -Robert G. Ingersoll

This is one of my favorite statements of all time. How can people believe their very own creator would punish them for using what has been given to them?

It doesn't have to be the way you would want it - God is God and you are not. Start there.
You do not have, as all people do not, have the abilitty to understand all things.
Ingersoll was a sinner in need of a Savior, like you and me, but chose to reject faith.
A perfect God can have nothing to do with sin - so we are separated by him except through his Son who took our punishment and paid our price. There was no other way - but God, in love, gave free will that we could choose life or reject him.
He rescued us from the bondage of sin. The problem is that we are broken by our sin and do not see - your perspective is negative, not positive and the way to abundant and eternal life.
I like this quote " He is no fool who gives away what he cannot keep, and gains what he cannot lose." Do you see the truth at all?
We rebel, but God loves us while he could leave us alone - he does not. We have the greatest gift of abundant and eternal life thorugh faith.
