I think a gas cook top is the only way to go. More even cooking and lasts a heck of a lot longer. Brand with gas doesn't matter too much. I've always been kind of a Kenmore person myself. I'd go with an electric oven, though.

Jenn Air is considered the best. I'd suggest looking it up in Consumer Reports. But, when you go to sell your house, Jenn Air is something that you could feature to add value to your resale.

Considering Whirlpool just bought Maytag, I would lean toward Maytag, as Whirlpool produces quality products!
Also, Whirlpool manufactures Kenmore as well, but they're much lest costly.

No you cannot use existing wiring, unless you want kitchen fire... LOL. Also, downdrafts are designed for pre-wired circuits. You need an exhaust for any downdraft. If your plans include a TOTAL remodel then, yes, the 2 cook tops will be wired to be sufficient. Make sure you have at least 1 oven to bake in, if needed.

we went to Best Buy and Home Depot and we liked the GE gas cook top the best. We have had it for a week and it works great
