At that age, if you are older you certainly need to check the laws where you live. Four years older would make you technically an adult, while he is still technically a child. That is illegal in many places. If he is older than you that means you are only thirteen which is probably too young to be dating someone who is almost a man.
As you get older age differences matter less and less. But at this age, four years is a large gap in many ways because people are going to still be changing a lot during this age period. Emotional, physical, mental. All of it. But last word, It's your life, and it's really between you and him, and your families to decide what's right for you, assuming no legal issues.

If you are 4 years younger YES . If you are 4 years older NO . 13 is to young to go out with what the law considers an adult . if he is 17 or 47 in the eye of the law he is the same age.

So are you 21 or 13? If you're 21 no probs. If you're 13 then you've got to think about the fact he may want to have sex with you. You're underage. Think carefully, 17 year old boys have hormones raging round their bodies and can be very persuasive. Lets hope you're 21 and if so have a great time.

Ideally it shouldn't really matter but younger guys can be quite immature when it comes to relationships and if you are four years older then you would probably be more aware of the age gap in this respect than he would be.

does that mean your 13, cos if it does well then it does matter in the eyes of the law he would be taking advantage of a minor.... you would have to wait until you was 16 yrs... sorry if that ain't the answer you wanted but if you go after this boy the he could get into a lot of trouble....

Love is the answer to everything. All you ever need is love,
communication and understanding. That's what I figured out so
far. If you are down, you need to get up and start doing something with
your life. Don't need to be shy, be straight forward and allways say what
you want and expect from the others.

My boyfriend is four years younger than me and I have to say that it doesn't often cause a problem. He keeps me from taking myself too seriously, and I balance him out so he doesn't always play the fool. Simply, together it works... Most of the time I forget that there's an age gap and as long as he makes me laugh and keeps me happy, then why worry?
