When Moses was trying to get the Pharaoh to release his people. God told him that each first born in Egypt would die on a particular night. Also God told him to tell his people to mark their doors with blood and the death angel would bypass their home and the first born of that household would be safe. Thus came the pass-over.

The Passover Exodus 12:23, For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

THE PASSOVER. this happened as the last plague was given as a sign to the Egyptian Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go to their freedom. Moses led the people to freedom and the Jewish people thus celebrate PASSOVER.
