My 4 year old has been sensitive to loud sounds since she was young - when she was a baby someone just coughing would make her cry and scream - she occasionally complains that the TV is too loud - her day care teacher told me that she often asks her to make the other kids quieten down as they are too noisy - we have a mechanics workshop and the sound of the hoist going up and down is too much or the air compressor (which is outside) etc - she also has a problem with her toilet training - I ask her why she doesnt go and usually I just get the answer "because I dont want to" but tonight she said that the flushing hurts her ears - at home she will go to the toilet but then she leaves the toilet and asks me to flush for her - I cant pull the plug out of the bath till after she has left the room etc - She has had many inconclusive hearing tests as she always had an ear infection and she has once had perferated ear drums after a cold - some days none of the above effects her at all. Ideas?

My SIL had the same problems as a child and went through several ear opperations Im hoping to avoid this if possible however if surgery will help her Ill consider it....

My father had Minieres Disease for a couple of years (although it seems to have gone now) but his was caused by fluid in the inner ear and made the room spin till he threw up he had no ear pain so I didnt know about that side of it.

That is a tough one. My 5 year old is the same way. He will not flush, and does not like the bathwater leaving the tub. When we go to the movies it is the same way, he says it is too loud. We have been to several ENT's, with no conclusions either. However, since getting his tonsils and adnoids out last year, it seems to have been a bit better, not gone, but better. His tonsils were so large it was holding fluid in the inner ear as his sinus were not draining properly. It took us 5 ENT's to finally get this. Tonsils and adnoids are my only thoughts. Good luck to you!

Ear Pain Loud Noise

I have personally faced this problem as a child. Even i was diagnosed for little until when doctors discovered that there was a hole in my ear - that lead straight to the brain. This was because of a smoking parent - father in my case(This is not the answer...just a cue if it helps).
Now for your child. I suspect that like me, in your child's case as well there is some space or hole or cavity that makes sound resonate in her ear. This leads to severe amplification and also sends waves to the bone structure in her ear (ask a doc. & she'd be able to tell u the complicated procedure of hearing...) This situation would warrant itself sometimes and when there is a blockage...she will face no problem.
Now for the solution. I am afraid, there is no permanent solution to this. I used ear plugs as a child and use them even today. As she grows up, she might develop a way to tolerate sounds. You can also talk to a doctor for some kind of plastic surgery into her ear. I do not know, maybe her problem is more severe.
Please keep her ears dry and help her with ear buds. This should work and also teach her to face sounds diagnoally. We, such people tend to give even a more keen ear to the subliminal sounds...
In case this works or i can be of further help...please do let me know. Hope i did not send u on the wrong track.

Possibly of Meniere's disease causes people to be super sensitive to noise. It is a ear disease. Or possible ear infection,I would take her to ear, nose throat specialist. Blessings and healing for your daughter.
