They were probably introduced through a family member or from general society hob-nobbing.
On a more interesting note, Prince Philip was born on a kitchen table!

It is a state secret. But rumor has it that they met on an early prototype of Match.com
Back in those days, Match.com was done by two old women in a second story windowfront. They would close their eyes and each point at a person, then run out and introduce the two that had been pointed at. This was pretty successul, except for those times when one pointed at a person and the other pointed at a horse or dog.
Thank goodness the finger pointing went well for our royal couple! And as a result of this highly skilled matchmaking, the Queen and Duke lived happily ever after!

HM the Queen & the Duke are cousins! if you look at their family tree they are something like cousin 5th time removed. Infact all the European royals are related due to the inter-marriages that were all arranged. Queen Victoria played the biggest part by having lots of kids & then marrying them off to other european royal families. Dukie was born on the greek island of corfu on the kitchen table.

He was a few years older, and she was "in love with" him from the age of 13. They obviously thought it was a great idea, maybe they were relieved she hadn't fallen for a commoner. They may have been married for donkey's years, but I'm still not convinced it's ever been a happy or truly successful marriage.

I believe they met at Dartmouth Naval College when Elizabeth was 13. She visited Dartmouth with her parents & Philip was selected to escort her for the day. Apparently she was attracted to him from that time & he was her only love. She was 21 when they married; he was about 5 years older.
