You can give cows milk to drink alone at one year old, however you can use cows milk in cooking and on cereal from 6 months old. If your baby has to have a special diet though i would keep him/her on formula as well as cow's milk until around two years old, just put the formula in a sippy cup as they shouldn't really drink out of bottles after one as they are a nightmare to get off them if you leave them too long!!

Well my pediatrician said that when they are 1 years old they can start on whole/homogenized milk because they still need the fat in the milk. And 2% milk after 2 years old or even 3.
If they are breastfed babies they should be breastfed for a year at least before transitioning to cow's milk.
And to make the transition of either powdered milk/breast milk to cow's milk put half and half in the bottle and gradually increase the cow's milk so they can get used to the taste of it. Some babies are fussy and if they've had something for so long they may not take to the new things right away.
Hope this helps!

I know professionals always say by around 1 years of age but my daughter loves her bottle. She is two now and still has one at nap time and bed time. I still have her on powder milk. It is follow on milk, cow and gate for up to 2 yr olds. My friends think I am mad but it is so healthy and full of nutrients and vitamins that cows milk does not have. I tried the cows milk a few months ago but she got constipated and the cows milk filled her up which affected her appetite. She has a cup of cows milk during the day but I see no rush for you to change.

1 years old is the proper age for a child to be put on whole or 2% cows milk. Some people start their child on regular milk before 1, and it is shown that children that young sometimes cannot digest it and it is too hard on their bodys. Your son is almost ready..Good luck and take care!

Babies are supposed to come off powdered formula at 12 mos and go onto vitamin D whole cow's milk. You can also take baby off regular infant formula and introduce stage 2 formula as well before going on to cow's milk. This helps be sure baby is ready for the transition. Your dr. should have spoken to you about this at your last well child appointment and if not then speak with them at the 12 month visit. If you don't get a chance to speak with the dr. you can always call your local health dept and speak with someone in the wic office- these are lisenced nutritional experts who specialize in babies.

It's usually 12 months when they can start drinking cows milk, but around 6 months when they can have it on cereals, and mixed in with foods/sauces etc. Although this is the age you *can* start from, you don't have to, there is nothing to say your son can't stay on powdered milk for as long as you feel comfortable.
With my son, he was having full fat cows milk on his cereals and within food from 6 months, and at 12 months I tried him with a bottle of milk before bed, to replace his formula, but he didn't sleep that night, as it made him very windy. Cows milk is very very rich, and some babies still aren't ready for it at 12 months. So I kept my son on the formula for another month or so, and then I tried cows milk again, but in the morning, and he was fine, but I kept him on formula at night, because I didn't want to risk upsetting his sleep again.
He's 16 months now, and still having full fat cows milk in the morning, and formula at night. Formula is still very high in vitamins and nutrients, so there is absolutely no harm in continuing to give it...but I have moved on to the follow-on milk, as this is more age appropriate. Cows milk has all the calories they need, but my son eats well and is a very good size and always has been, so I know he doesn't need two bottles of cows milk a day...and whilst it suits him, I'll continue with it.

i started mine on bottle milk at around 12 months some a bit earlier and some a bit later when i felt they where ready i also found it a good idea at first to water it down about 2 thirds milk and 1 third water and boil it up together and increase the milk a bit every day that's the way every one round hear does it this way the babies don`t get the belly cramps and bad stomach like they do with a straight swap also they do still need plenty of milk at one year and will till they are quite a bit older they cant get enough nutrients from the amount of food they manage to eat

I found with all 4 of my children that once I was feeding them solids I started to replace the baby milk with cows. By 1yr it is perfectly safe to give your child cows milk. That being said if the child has a reaction to it you should consult your dr or health visitor.
Try your little one with a small amount, you'll probably find they love it and you can just switch from one to the other. Nappies may be a little different for a while but nothing to worry about. Hope that helps.

I took all 3 of my kids off powder milk at about a year old and when they started to go through bottles like they were starving. Cow's milk has more milk fat.
