I think it would for the very fact that it would give people a longer time to think about it. I think that given enough time to really live and think about life, everybody becomes an atheist.

our gene is broken, evolution killed that for us. Back in the biblical times, man was known for living for at least two hundred years. There is a gene in our DNA that secured that age in life, with the help of vitamins and so on. But somewhere down the evolutionary track, the gene got broke along with many others.

And if science had made that claim, then why have faith? Really, because religion only becomes a psychological need when the mind realizes that death is inevitable. What would be the fun of living life knowing that there is nothing at the end. If science had found some way to reenact that gene, then science would go down in history as winning the match over the metaphysical.

It may start a new religion where some obscure prophecy foretold the scientific marvel and somehow, they might install a system to organize around it using things like guilt or fear to keep the faithful focused and thankful for their science based longevity...it's a classic story.

Good question. I'm sure they'd find some way to rationalize, "God just happened to choose all those people to live that long!"

Hello again snake-bait...

I applaud any effort to make our lifes longer, and better too. But I have never heard of a scientist trying to make life worthwhile. All is vanity...

alas, our death rate has been slowed down already, and average life span increased from 30 something to 80 something thanks to science not to 'god'

if not for science helping to show this, we would not be around long enough to see the inconsistency or even challenge our handed down cud to chew on from indoctrinating parents

No, somebody would find a way to twist it to fit some pet creed or other.
