i greatly appreciate all of your answers and thank you all for being so honest. The reason Muslim women cover their hair is modesty. The thought is that if you cover your hair and your body nothing is left to be shown but your personality. It is impossible for a man to see you as a sex object b/ he cannot see the things that men use to define a woman as sexy or not. (Willys explained that helped me to show this)

it is not a thing of oppression. i am not married. my family is not muslim. honestly, there are many people in my life that would prefer i did not where it. I am 100% American and i cover because i love what it does for my life. Covering is a personal choice that women make to empower themselves and allow for people only to see who they are at their cores.

(Even though this explanation was kind of long it is the readers digest version.... anyone interested in anything more in depth can please contact me)

Thank you all so much for your time

Asalamwalaikum

It's a preference, in my opinion. I won't criticize. However, to me hair is an important feature that draws me to a woman. It would be hard for me to become attracted/interested in a woman whose hair I could not see. That may be superficial on my part but hey, that's MY opinion!

Firstly, how do I feel?

If the woman is just covering her hair, I don't see it as a problem unless she gets persecuted for not covering her hair. If the woman is covering her whole face however, that is another matter, as she is covering her identity, and a bank or passport office or police officer for example may take exception.

Not all muslim women cover their hair, to my limited knowledge the Koran instructs both men and women do dress modestly, but what dressing modestly means may vary from culture to culture and tradition to tradition. So to some muslim women from certain cultures and traditions this may include covering the hair.

Interestingly, the book Corinthians of the Christian bible instructs women to cover their head while praying, yet most Christian women don't. Elsewhere in the bible (Timothy) women are advised to dress modestly. In the culture of modern western society hair is not covered, cleavage can be shown and short dresses are acceptable.

I think there are several components to this question, culture, tradition and religion.

I have never had an issue with Muslim women covering their hair..or even completely covering all but their eyes...as long it is a choice they have made for themselves. All religons have their own beliefs about dress and appearance...both for men and women..so I have never understood why others become so upset by it

i prefer to enable you realize that religious Jewish women who're married additionally conceal their hair. the reason has to do with rules concerning to modesty in gown and behaviour and the relationship between the sexes. So, I understand which you're following your religious ideals besides, and that i in simple terms had to teach you that Jews and Muslims have some thing in person-friendly in this count. i think of we would desire to continually all understand one yet another's religious ideals or maybe better than that - get exhilaration from and understand them and we can all earnings from this recommendations-set.

I think that forcing women to cover their hair (or forcing anyone to wear anything) is a violation of freedom.

If you want to, then fine, if you don't then don't.
It's all about choice.

Why should a woman be forced to do something just so a man does not look... what does that make us, walking sex objects - what does that make men, walking perverts?

Many non-muslims feel that muslim women are forced to cover their hair.

It's not that way. Our religion tells us to cover our hai so that a non-mehram (a man we aren't related to i.e. who's not our father, brother or husband) shouldn't see it. Women's hair attracts men to a great extent and that's a fact. The more covered a woman is, the more she is respected and treated with dignity rather than a sex object for men to lust upon.

This command has been given by Allah to save us from men's eyes cuz its true wether you agree with me or not that men think of sex most of the time and therefore its better to present yourself outside in the most modest and decent way.

Besides even Virgin Mary covered herself and so do nuns....why?..and why don other christian females dont?

I feel it is perfectly okay. My grandmother who was Catholic used to wear a scarf when she went out. Plus as Catholic women and girls, we used to have to cover our heads to enter a church. I can relate to the way women feel about this because as a little girl, there was not way I would go into a church without having something on my head. Many older Catholic women still do this.

I'm very pleased to see a positive spin on this. I was getting tired of all the negative responses and comments about Islam. You're absolutely correct in your reasoning. I'm very happy for you.

I am a Christian. I know some Christian women that cover their hair. It makes no difference to me. If that is there belief, I respect it.
