We certainly do not believe it is an usual occurrence.
And, of course, nowhere does the Bible say it was a whale.

What it does say is that God prepared a great fish.
It might have been some special sort of fish. OR it might just have been "prepared" in that it wasn't off swimming at the other end of the Sea.

It seems strange that people find it so difficult to believe that He who created the universe can also act in supernatural ways AND YET believe that the whole of the universe just came into being from nothing totally by itself.

Yes, this is technically possible. Jonah is also not the only person to have survived such an episode.

There was a case in the 1800's where a whaling vessel lost some crewmen, while pursuing a sperm whale. The whale got away in the wreckage of the small boat. Several days later, the whaler caught "another" sperm whale, this time killing the whale. During the processing of the whale, as it was being gutted, one of the missing crewmen fell out of the stomach cavity! He was still alive, but the stomach acids had bleached his skin totally white, and he had gone insane.

Whales do vomit, btw. It is called "ambergris", and is incredibally valuable in the perfume market.

Yes. I do, & the reason he did not die was that God still had a work for him to do. After spending 3 days in the whales belly, that gave him time to think, That was also a type of Christ being dead 3 days, for as Christ was in the heart of the earth 3 days, But we have to look at those 3 days, sometimes not as 24 hrs times 3, equals 72 hrs., Because in Christ case, He was put in the tomb just before the sabbath began which would have been around 5:00 pm Estimated, & he rose from the dead at the breaking of the day on Sunday, which only puts Christ actually in the tomb about 36 to 38 hrs. give or take a few hours. But not the 72 hours as we count time, We as humans used Friday as One day & Saturday as day 2 & Sunday as day 3, if you try to use the dates like that, then you void any other scriptures about Jesus Christ, Because the bible also says, By David I suffer that he will not leave my soul in hell nor suffer thou holy one to see corruption. And Corruption sets in after 72 hours. so we have to learn how to read the bible with a spiritual mind & not a carnal mind.

It might have happened.
There are 2 types Baleen whales which eat krill. Krill are tiny, tiny shrimp. and Tooth whales eat squid at great depths.
If a whale got Jonah in it's mouth by accident it would of spit him out. A couple of minutes would have seemed like 3 days. And, we've been hearing about it ever since.
It was really no big deal. Except for Jonah who would have sh it and had psychological problems for ever after.

That's the point of the story!!! (BTW, most Bible translations show that it wasn't a whale, probably just some big fish). God preserved Jonah's life for the purpose he had for him.

It is not a matter of belief. In this age you understand that it was a fable. It had a message that's all. Nothing survives the stomach of a whale. That is a simple truth.

YES...I BELIEVE THE BOOKS IN THE BIBLE..DO YOU BELIEVE IN NON-FICTIONAL BOOKS YOU HAVE READ? IF SO HOW CAN YOU BE SURE THEY ARE REAL.. YOU DON'T REALLY HAVE PROOF,,BUT YOU KNOW IT MUST BE REAL IT SAYS NON-FICTIONAL..ALL I CAN SAY IS JUST BECAUSE A BOOK WAS WRITING DOESN'T MEAN IT IS NOT REAL,,THE BOOK YOU SPEAK OF IS CALLED THE LIVING BIBLE!!! THAT MEANS THAT WHEN I READ IT THE LORD GIVES ME MEANING IN IT FOR MY LIFE THAT HE HAS PREDESTIND FOR ME..HE HAS DIFFERENT THINGS TO SAY ABOUT YOU, BUT IT COMES DOWN TO IT,,THAT BOOK CALLED BIBLE HAS STOOD FOR OVER 2000 YEARS AND THAT BOOK WILL STAND LONG AFTER YOU HAVE LEFT THIS EARTH..LONG AFTER THIS WORLD ENDS...THE WORD WILL STAND!! WE DON'T HAVE TO EXCUSE IT AND WE SURLEY DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN IT TO ANYONE WHO DOESN'T WANT TO HEAR IT..WE DON'T COME TO JUDGE YOU AS YOU THINK, WE COME TO SHOW YOU JUST HOW MUCH JESUS LOVES YOU!! IF YOU TAKE OFFENSE IN THAT THEN LOOK IN YOURSELF IN WAY YOU GET ANGRY BUT HE DOES LOVE YOU OR HE WOULDN'T GO THROUGH ALL THE TROUBLE OF SPEAKING TO YOU..THANK YOU LORD FOR OPENING MY EYES...
