eyeheart... is right, you have the wrong verse. I think you mean 1 Corinthians 16:22 -- "If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha." (KJV)

Anathema means a strong curse.

Maranatha intensifies anathema, making it a very strong curse, or appeals to God.

The New International Version reads: "If anyone does not love the Lord--a curse be on him. Come, O Lord!"

In other words, all those who do not love God and are still alive at the return of Jesus Christ to rule the earth, will be subject to the horrible last plagues (Rev 15:5-16:21).

Maranatha...This is a phrase from Aramaic, or should I say 2 phrases. Because of the nature of the ancient Greek manuscripts, we are unable to distinguish between them. (No spaces between words)

... For those fussing about verse numbers, look for Malachi chapter 4 IN THE HEBREW TEXT. It only has 3 chapters in Hebrew. But then you should notice that chapter 3 has 24 verses, while English Bibles usually only have 18. My point is that while most are fairly uniform, verse divisions were added by man and are not part of the original text. My username is from Galatians 2:19 in the Greek New Testament, but the English translation of it is usually in verse 20.
Don't fight over verse numbers, or even use then as a separation between ideas. These letters and books were intended to be read as single documents, not picked apart. ALWAYS consider the entire context in which a passage is found.

That is actually verse 22, not 15.

The word "anathema" means "cursed." The word "Maranatha" means "the Lord is coming." The Word of God is saying that if anyone does not want to get saved, then let him be cursed because the Lord is coming. You can try to warn people, but they ultimately must make the decision to accept or reject Christ as their own personal Saviour. If we warn people of the judgment to come and they laugh in our faces, then they are choosing to go to hell by their own freewill. They will be cursed to burn in the Lake of Fire if they don't become born-again.

1 Cor. 16:22 reads: If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed [in Greek, the word translated accursed is "anathema"]. O Lord, come! [in Aramaic, the word for this phrase is "Maranatha"]

Do not overlook the word "love." In ancient times, this word was used with a double meaning; to "love" someone or something not only meant to have deep affection for it, but also to CHOOSE it. With this in mind, Paul tells us that whoever doesn't choose Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives will be accursed -- unsaved.

Basically it means If you do not follow God then you will be cursed because the Lord is coming. Maranatha is actually aramaic, one of the few Aramaic words to be used in the NT, and is loosely translated to the lord is coming. Anathema basically means cursed. It is a warning to the church of Corinth to let them know that the day of the Lord is coming and if you do not do what you have been required to do then you will be cursed.

I am sorry to tell you, that you have your scriptures mixed up,It is not 1st Cor 16:15, it is in 1st Cor, 16:22 Anathema Maranatha, means ACCURSED. You can also find that in Galatians 1:8 & Jude 14&15 verse

Here is the verse:
You know that in the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints.

This is one of the letters written by Paul. Paul must have wrote this letter to Corinth during his 3 year visit to Ephesus on his third missionary journey. The two cities sat across from one another on the Aegean sea- both were busy and important ports. Titus must have carried this letter from Ephesus to Corinth. ( 2 Corinthians 12:18)
