The latter is the correct answer. And you know it is otherwise you'd not have posted this question.

That is very selfish of you. You want to stay with your girfriend so you can fall back on that relationship in case you don't find someone else. Are you scared of being alone?
Think of it like this...would you be hurt if she started looking around for another man whilst still with you? Would you feel betrayed? Going down the pan or not, betrayal still hurts
If you want to start looking, then break up with her first and give it some time before you start looking. It would hurt her so much if you broke up with her then the next day started looking for someone to replace her as though she meant nothing to you

You have answered your own question, make a clean break, tell her how you feel, once your relationship is over, take some time out, and start looking again, whatever you do don't hang on to your relationship, make a clean break if that is what you want

Aren';t you the guy whose girlfriend won't make time for him?
Well then you aren't really 'together' anyway are you?
But best to make a break. Get to know yourself a bit and have some fun before comitting yourself again.
I'm a big believer in everyone you meet has a lesson to teach you. I say get away from the old one and learn the lesson to become a better person before embarking on a new relationship.

Yes you should, but only if shes either wealthy or very good in the sack, make the best of a dwindling relationship whilst looking for something better. In fact now would be a good time to suggest those little sex games that you've always wanted to try and never had the courage to suggest, hell at best you can get her to act like your own personal porn ***** before you ship her out and get someone else in.
Women are like cars, when they're shiny and new its all good fun and makes you feel good when you give them a decent thwapping, but once you've owned them for a while they get the odd dent and scrape and you dont look after them the same. A newer younger (possibly GTI) model makes all the difference and you'll be happy again.
Treat women like toilets - they're happy when you're abusing them, thing is that toilets dont follow you round when you've finished using them.

You should talk to your girlfriend and either try to work at it or make a clean break. It is better to spend time on your own rather than jump into a new relationship just to get out of an old one.

Its better to take a clean break - that way you're being totally upfront and honest from the offset.
If you're thinking this way - chances are you know in your heart that this relationship is over so just walk away from it and find someone that bit more willing to work at the relationship in return - unlike your girlfriend. Good luck xx

Find out why it's going wrong and try to fix it. If that doesn't work, only then should you break it off. Either way you must talk it out with your girlfriend because communication is the key ingredient to a good relationship.
You've not given much detail so that's the best I can give you.

you shouldnt stay with some one for the sake of being on your own that isnt fair on your partner or yourself. You will end up hurting each other more by holding out especailly if you hold out then as soon as you break up your with someone else that isnt fair on your g/f . Your loved/cared for her at one stage in your relationship to have been with her, so love/care for her enough not to hurt her in that way. If the show was on the other food how would you feel if she did that to you would be heart broken. So what ever you think of doing ask yourself the same question to yourself and think how you would feel if it was you it was aimed at.

going from experience it is better to make a clean break and start looking for someone new, it only makes it harder when you find that new person and then have to leave your current partner. plus you face hurting them in the process which is probably not what you want to do.

Love is the answer to everything. All you ever need is love,
communication and understanding. That's what I figured out so
far. If you are down, you need to get up and start doing something with
your life. Don't need to be shy, be straight forward and allways say what
you want and expect from the others.
