You can provided you're totally committed to taking that dog out a lot during the day, making sure they get all the exercise they need. Why not get an all-breed book or better yet, go to a dog show and check out the breeds there. You're main criteria would be getting a low energy level dog who would be content not having a yard (or garden) to run in. You might want to consider something like a bichon, clumber spaniel, bull dog, there's several others, but the choice of a dog is a very personal one so you need to find the one you like best.

Every dog I've ever had has lived in my house, and I don't have a garden. I've have both mixed breeds and purebred dogs. Dogs don't care about a garden.
Oops. I just read your question again. Do you mean yard? I do have a yard.. Now I'm not sure ifyou mean a yard or an actual garden ... lol. Sorry.

ANY breed can live in a house without a garden as long as you take it out regularly to parks for exercise. You may want to steer clear of the field houds however (german short hairs, brittanys, weimereners) as they need a LOT of room to run.

I would definitely stick to small or medium sized dogs. And be prepared to clean up after them when they go. You will have to exercise the dog regularly. And by that I mean daily walks. If you can't commit to that, then wait to get one. Once you choose your dog, you need to understand that you are putting in about 15 years to this animal. They will trust you and they will suffer if you abandon them. But, they will also be loyal and a great companion.

We don't have a garden but we have a dog. He's perfectly fine... but I would prefer if we had a garden it would be better that way. but don't worry you just have to teach the dog where to do his 'stuff' hehe and it'll be okay. And you can take him out for walks etc....
I would suggest smaller dogs.... mine is medium-sized.

Don't think it is a very good idea but if it must be that way then I think it is important to walk them atleast twice a day.
