What started it? The Russians and Turkey!

The Russians were making in roads to Iran and (what is now) Iraq at the turn of the 20th Century, to take control of all oil.

The SIS (British Secret Intelligence Service, now MI6) found this out and advised the Govt who then created BP. The SIS was poorly funded, and so a tax on petrol in the UK was levied to pay for the SIS. (Now you know why we pay so much tax on fuel!).

As allies of the Russians, the Turks invaded most of the middle east and added it to their empire. During the first world war, Turkey changed allliance to Germany, but a british soldier (T E Lawrence) successfully rallied the arabian natives against Turkey, and helped them form Iraq, and other Arab states.

Instead of taking the oil for ourselves we gave it back to its rightful owners.

In the early 1990's Iraq invaded Kuwait to take over their oil.

Britian and America (plus a few other supporting extras) kicked Saddam out of Kuwait, and gave the oil back to the Kuwaitis, although Saddam managed to destroy some of the oil fields by setting fire to them. Very ecologically irresponsible!

Saddam later managed to successfully decieve the Americans and British that he had obtained weapons of mass destruction. Because he had sent missiles against Israel, a non combatant country during the first gulf war, it was decided to take the threat seriously, and remove Saddam and establish a proper government, army and police, then leave and .... make sure the Iraqis keep their oil!

The point everyone keeps missing is we had many opportunities to conquer, rule these countries and bleed them dry of oil, but we HAVE acted honourably each time. Our soldiers have died defending these peoples, but some people have decided to ignore what we have done, and treat us as if we have done what we could have done.

The current terrorist action is not about freedom from oppression for the middle east, its about attacking the countries that actually prevent oppression, because its the terrorists who want to take over and do to their own people what they are falsely accusing us of doing. Can you imagine the Mafia going out and bombing and shooting the police and it's precincts? Thats what, on a global scale, the terrorists are doing. People who can't get voted into power sometimes rig elections or use terrorist tactics to gain power.

Reading the newspapers and watching tv won't give you the full picture, you need to be a student of history, so your question isn't a silly one, as implied by others.

Economic sanctions, rather than military action, are more efficient, but only in a very long term sense... it took seventy years for sanctions to work on the USSR! More than thirty years against apartheid! And a lot of people died waiting for them to work.

I find it incredulous that you claim to have a near total lack of understand about even one part of the war.

And as you can imagine there isn't sufficient time of space to bring you up to date on the war. I will comment on "this oil thing". I am going to guess you are speaking about the price oil. The prices rose due to the continues high demand in the US and elsewhere and as a terrorist tool to cripple our war effort.

That's all I feel like typing. But the was will continue and perhaps you take the time to read and listen to the news.

Good luck andtrynot to takein all i n at once time.

The Middle east has oil, America and the rest of fossil fuel burning countries want it. Its about as simple as that. Unless you have a high clearance in government, you wont know what is going on, all propaganda I'm afraid.
