had an escort 4 past 5 years and apart from the usual running costs its been 100% reliable. yes they do rust mainly on the wheel arches and if your unlucky on the bits you cant see. chassis and door seals. the sort of reg your looking at still has plenty of miles left .go for lowish milage and service history. neither may be telling the truth but you never know!. if you keep to the 1400cc its cheap tax and a bit lower insurance group 5. good luck with the test. enjoy what ever car you end up buying.

I REALLY do think that you should. People are saying don't because it's quite a rubbish car, and people are materialistic. owever, because you will be a new driver, you need a rubbish car because you're new and you're more likely to crash it in your first year, and you don't want to be crashing a nice car. People might also be saying don't because you've not passed yet and examiners don't like it when tey know that you've already bought a car, because they think you're being cocky for some reason. So buy the rubbish car, AFTER you pass, just incase.

I dont know the reasons that people are saying dont buy that car....is it that car in particular or a car in general?

If it is that car in particular then maybe they consider it to be a bag of shite or if it is cars in particular, maybe they are just suggesting wait until u know ur test results?

Sorry cant really help but good luck for ur test!

old escorts are not really known for been reliable cars. they suffer from lots of bad faults. winter time can be a real **** for cold starts and bad connections. your budget must be really tight if that's all you really can afford. i would personally go for a cheap corsa or vw polo for a first car
