It seems that one of my parakeets has a clogged vent. The poop seems to build up around the area, until I soak her bottom in warm water and remove it. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? Thanks for your help.

Try a little glycerin and swab the area with a cotton bud (Q-tip)...suggest changing diet also...it seems that something is cause abnormal droppings in this bird...if you give it greens, then perhaps that is the cause.

Try to clean it with a cotton swab like above, but be gentle!

Is this a female? If it is I betchya she's egg-bound. (sex can be determined by color of the cere, or like the nose area above the beak. boys are blue, girls are tans, browns, reddish) I would definately call a vet - they can be very helpful, even just over the phone.

I would say you need to change your birds eating habits i think its something to do with the food its eating but if your concerned at all i would go to your nearest vet just to be on the safe side hope this helps.

If it were me, I would be concerned about this. Your bird is so small that a short time with an illness can be fatal.
