They don't. They want, need and deserve the same rights as heterosexuals. They don't want to be discriminated against. Why is this so hard to understand?

NOTE: the spelling should be their (possession form) not there as in location (adverb)

We're put on this earth to reproduce. We're part of a cycle of life that needs reproduction in order to continue. If homosexuals want to be homosexuals in civil life, than they have to make the choice not to receive these benefits that are put in place by people who are pro life. I mean if everyone was a homosexual, than their would be no reproduction, and there for, no benefits will exist. As far as marriage goes, it's a union between a man and a woman. There's something very special that happens chemicaly in a relationship between a man and a woman, that you just can't get through the joining of any other sexes. Why make it seem cheaper for all of the happily married heterosexual couples? The constitution was written many years ago, and we have had many changes to it since then called ammendments. Do we need to change the wording for u? All men are not created equal obviously, we're put here on earth into a certain social class that we're not asked to be put in. Just because I'm in the middle class, does not mean that I should go to court and fight for the right to be in the upper class because I was not created equal. I feel that there's a certain ignorance here that homosexuals just aren't seeing. How can you relate homosexual rights with the rights that weren't give to African-Americans. Are you being enslaved? Have we made you sit in the back of the bus? Do you have to drink water in a seperate fountain?

Gay people do not want their own sets of rights. They just want the same rights as everyone else.

I can tell you personally, that I do not want my own rights. I want to be able to live my life with all the rights and privileges that were promised to me my whole life. America is supposed to be the land of the free and a place where different cultures and ideas can come together and live equally, but as we all have seen, this is not the fact of the matter. Especially since we have been mixing religion with politics. We have turned American from the land of the free to the land of the oppressed. All rights should be promised to each individual regardless of sexuality. No special rights should be made for any group.

the very same reason women and different colours want rights, and they're not very different to the ones that you have. There's a state of mind that is called "equality". Now this is supposed to be in effect, however people seem to forget it... amnesia perhaps, or selective memory loss? who knows? I would like to be treated like the next person. I pay taxes, I give to charity... I'm a god person, so why should i be punished? it's immoral to say the least. Maybe you should turn the question around to "why should you have more rights than me, or any other homosexual?" make no mistake, i'm taking this question as a personal attack based on your arrogance "why do gay people..." we're the same as you, except our preference is different, heck, that's what makes us individual... it'd be a pretty boring world if we were all the same, wouldn't you say?

Gay people do not want their own set of rights... we want to be afforded the SAME rights as heterosexuals.

There was a time in this nation's history when people of color were not allowed to own property or to marry, simply because it was "traditional values" at the time. There was a time when in this nation's history when women were not allowed to vote, again in the name of "traditional values". Now, we are at a time in our nation's history where homosexual people are being discriminated against in the same manner, still under the blanket of "traditional values".

In retrospect, we realize that those who suffered this kind of discrimination in the past did so unjustly. We now have the unique opportunity to show future generations that we know that all people are created equally, and all people in this nation should be afforded the same rights, regardless of sex, race, religion or sexuality.

I remember reading the Constitution as a kid, and having been promised by this ancient document life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The pursuit of happiness, in my opinion, would include the ability and right to marry the one I love, regardless of their sex.

I also remember that this document said "all men are created equal", I do not believe it said "all heterosexual men are created equal".

First off, aliet needs to change her name to Idiot. There, got that off my chest.

Now, what rights in specific are you talking about? The right to work without threat of harassment or dismissal because of who you are? The right to rent or own a home without fear of losing it? The right to not be harmed or attacked or even murdered simply because of who you love? or is this just about marriage?

I am not a US citizen, I live in Canada where gays have EQUAL rights under civilian law, note I said civilian, the reason for that is, under marriage law in Canada, gays can marry but cannot demand that a church marry them if it is against their particular faith. This is called RATIONAL law, that is to say, the bigots get to keep their "us" only club and gays get EQUAL rights at the same time. If anybody wants "special" rights, it's religious organizations. They demand the government remain out of their business and in turn receive tax exemption. In the same breath they demand the right to dictate and manipulate laws and the government to prevent others from having the SAME rights, not 'special', as everyone else.

So again I ask, what specific set of rights do you speak of. Please, I'd be interested to hear what they are, afterall, if you can ask this question, surely you can list what the specifics are............you can, can't you?

Please be specific about what "set of rights" you are talking about.

I think this is just a "catch phrase" you use to pretend there is a problem where there isn't.

I don't want anything more, different, or extra when it comes to rights. I want equality. I want the same protections every other tax paying citizen gets.

My question to you is:

Why shouldn't EVERY person in the United States have EXACTLY the same rights, privileges and protections?

Your problem isn't about "rights."

Your problem is you don't think gay people should have ANY rights.

Get a grip. Your kind of bigotry doesn't belong in a free and equal society.

An 'own' set of rights implies we are 'different' or 'defective' when compared to straight people. It is not about separatism or 'special' treatment we want EQUALITY under the law, in society and when gaining access to marriage rights, accomodation, health, adoption, tax incentives, asylum, citizenship, immigration services, education, training and the workplace.

We don't want our 'own' rights. We want the SAME rights that YOU take for granted every day.

I'm with all of you who answered this. You think it would be an easy concept to understand wouldn't you? But, they just have to put a twist on it and make it difficult. EQUAL. It's one word, can you say it? E Q U A L. Try it. There you go. Good boy/girl. How about this, this might be a little harder....SAME RIGHTS. Good job! You are so smart. Okay now for the big one! Equal, Same Rights. Oh you get an A! Hope you understand a little more! Don't forget to get your sticker for the day!

We don't want our own set of rights, we want the same as everyone else... because they're called "RIGHTS", not "rights for everyone but gays"
