The first time you get a depo provera shot you must be inbetween day 3-5 of your period, after that you are scheduled every 12 weeks. It will not be effective if you are not on your period the first time you get it. Read up on it before you decide, it can have some nasty side effects.

I have this injection done too. I have to go back (to my doctor) every 3 or 4 months to have it done. So far, it has caused me absolutely NO problems whatsover! I find it to be the most reliable drug for for putting a complete stop to my periods, and now I don't even get the stomach cramps that I used to get before I went on this depra provera injection. (stomach cramps and periods - YUKKKEEE, HORRIBLE!)
It has lifted such a weight off my shoulders and given me a happier outlook on my body too.
I believe that one of the side effects to this drug, is that it can make you put on weight, and maybe get fat, but I think I have been okay so far, and haven't really gained a lot of weight to what I originally weighed.
I guess I'm just really lucky with this drug, unlike like some who seemed to have bad side effects like blood and milk, to which I have had absolutely NONE of these whatsover!
Good luck with yours though! :-)
P.S. - If you want this done, then I suggest that you speak to your doctor first. They will be able to advise you about the best time to start with it.

You need to have had a period before you can get the injection to be sure you are not pregnant! At the start of your period make an appointment & then you can get it!

be very careful with the injection as my other half had it and sufered a lot of side effects. Discuss the very large list of given side effects with your doctor before you decide to take it.
