Instead of buying a pet elephant - which is a ridiculous idea anyway - why don't you Sponsor an elephant orphan? David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust need every penny they can get. They are based in Tsavo Game Park, Kenya and do amazing work.

Do you know where the term white elephant came from?

The king of Thailand had a herd of white elephants. If some nobleman irritated him badly enough, the king would make him a gift of a white elephant, which had to be fed, and you couldn't kill the king's elephant. I assume they were albinos and sunburned too easily to be much use doing work.

instead of just buying one off the rack, why not go adopt one from the wwf and save endangered elephants of the wild! go to http://www.donation4charity.org/wwf-adopt-an-elephant.php and check it out...it saves an elephant, and u can have a 'pet' elephant! =)
