Is Heat Magazine, Hello, Ok and all those types of magazines leading to an unhappy society tormented by people they'll never be with material possessions and lifestyles they can never own. Anyone in London, Don't you think the the London Lite and Thelondonpaper free newspapers are basically extensions of this type of celeb-based bubble gum?

(Personally I don't read any of these magazines)

Yes I think it is. It is also building expectation that skill, talent or intelligence has little or no contribution to make to perceived success.
It is making us vain, shallow and selfish.
I am not suggesting that should you be a reader of celeb mags or BB viewer then you are clearly, shallow etc. I am simply saying the cumulative effect of a staple diet of these things to the exclusion of any real quality will lead to it.

I dont think this is a new phenomenon, the french evolution was brought about because some people had things and did things out of reach of the ordinary man. At least in the modern world when celebs suffer we all know about it, back then a royal or celebrity life would have seemed perfect. So my answer would be no,at least not any more than it always has.

Only if people are daft enough to believe that "celebrity" life is better than their own. Celebrity culture is vapid, pointless and highly changable, you can be the bees knees one minute and a pile of worthless crap the next and none of that is in your own control.
Anyone who aspires to that has to be crazy!
In general you have a good point, we do stand to loose any real meaning from life if we carry on this way. What is wrong with ordinary life? Nothing, the comfort and support of family and friends, the enjoyment of small things and having a life rich in meaning beats empty materialism anyday and a suppossed relationship with faceless and fickle fans.
Celebrities can keep their lives for me, I think they are idiots for wanting it! Do you really know any truly happy celebs??? Places like the Priory are full of them and their idea of happiness often sits in syringe, gets snorted up their hooters or lies in the bottom of a bottle! Nice life eh?

What is actually leading to a dissatisfied society is our own attitude and lack of individuality. We are influenced by everything ,magazines, films, televisions, net everything and these are things which we can discuss upon, crib about but not really stop them. What we can change is our reaction to influences. Living in today's times calls for great integrity and determination.

that is a real good question........
I actually hate this type of coverage, be it in magazines or tv.
Who really gives a shiit on their live style, scandals, what they own and how they live. It occurred to me:; maybe " Am I jealous ?)
It cant be or can it ?
I am in Berlin so I don't know the papers you mentioned, but I am sure we have the same stuff available. I see a lot of young people with a hang up,because they want to be like-wise, and at the same token know damn well, they never live up to it. Consequently being unhappy.
Yes they (maybe me included) are dissatisfied.

PS: I am working on it

People are living precariously through the exciting lives of celebrities, rather than trying to make their own lives more exciting.

It's probably not entirely a bad thing, a simple life with a few excitements thrown in is enough to keep most people happy.

Yes, Heat try to put a knowing critical slant on it, but its basically the same aspirational rubbish. What is sad is that now many teenagers want to be a topless model or marry a footballer when they grow up so it shrinks ambition and determiantion really.

Does anyone really care about celebrities? Most folks could care less. These are the shallowest, most ego-centric, and worst examples in the world -- so we just ignore and go on with daily life.

You are very possibly right.

I know I feel much more content in my life when I haven't been reading those mags. I hate celebrity anyway, who asked for celebrities?
