In my opinion you need to be intelligent enough to be able to break down information and then put it across in away that people can understand it.
I think it is a sad thing but i dont think there are many teachers aound that are capable of that.

Patience and understanding are the foremost qualities you need. Then a strong sense of authority is required. You'll learn other qualities while teaching.

I think you need to be a leader but yet get down to thier level. Try to make the class more than the mundain standing at the board and lecturing. Get excited about it and try to make it exciting to learn.

In no special order, here's my list:
- mastery of subject matter
- creativity
- flexibility
- firmness and consistency
- enthusiasm
- communication skills
- empathy
- patience
- a sense of humor
and above all,
RESPECT. Never humiliate a student. Never patronise. Treat them with respect and you will earn it from them.

To be a good teacher, you need to be very knowledgeable on your subj, you need to be able to explain in more than one way...you need to have the ability to make it interesting & to convey your love or enthusium to your student or audence.. you need to be personable and you need a extra huge capacity for patience. and you need to be able to rember when you were in a student's shoes.
