I think it means different things to different people. I see the sign on cars, usually accompanied by a yellow ribbon. What do people mean by "support?"

i love this question! i've asked it MANY times[ on the street]. how do you not support the war , but DO support the troops?... never got a "strong answer"... hope you do...... do you say a prayer for them at night i doubt many [ except family members do that].. do you send them letters a "care packages" ?.. thats being done, but not by THAT many people.... i think when people say that "they support the troops" i think most of them are just "parroting" what they hear others say.. and i think they mean" i dont HATE the troops as i hate the war and those who started it.
as for myself i "feel" for these young men and their families.. it's a sad thing going on here. i served in virt nam and did so by choice,,, i never cared if anybody back home "supported" me or not.. but it was good to get a "care package" once in a while...
... so folks .. if you realy "support the boys", send them some good things to eat! and if you REALY want to honor them, MAKE THIER WAR THE LAST WAR!

They mean to show moral support for the people who are risking their lives in service to this country. Many people frown upon our soldiers. A great many of our soldiers are assholes, racists, and otherwise not deserving of any respect. Whether you agree with what they do or not, whether you like them individually or not, they still risk their lives for the people that you have put in office. Show them some respect.

This does not apply to anyone who isnt in the battlefield. If you push a pencil or you press buttons on a computer, you arent a soldier or "troop", you are a clerk.

Show your support through prayer, positive thoughts, or reaching out to a soldier.
Does it mean you have to support the war?
NO WAY!
I am against this war, but my thoughts and prayers go out every day for each man and woman that must fight in this war.

As a soldier who has been deployed many times I can tell you that it means that it is asked of you just to give a simple thanks for those who serve. Its not asked that you support the war or the government, but just a simple thanks th the soldier, airmen/woman, marine, and seaman/woman. Its also to avoid the issues we had when soldiers returned home from Vietnam.

they generally mean to avoid public comments against the war to avoid demoralising the troops who already are facing the dilemma of fighting a war with out cogent cause.
