I'm not talking about a man because I have been with my boyfriend for 4 years and am very happy! I mean new friends. We moved to a new area about a year ago and my boyfriend has a new job and knows lots of people. The people I work with are a lot older than me and I'm desperate to try and meet some people. I went to the gym but everyone was really miserable! There are some courses at the local college but I'm not paying £200 to learn how to make clay pots! Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm in cornwall by the way.

Are the people around you very provincial in their thinking and weary of outsiders? I moved to a place in the Midwest of the USA a couple years ago and had this trouble of meeting people there. I found out that several others who had moved there from other places faced the same problem. Some of them had lived there for quite a while, yet still didn't feel like they quite "fit in" or were "abided."
I finally moved back to my previous place of residence half a continent away because I couldn't stand the feeling of alienation, no matter what I tried to do.
