Do people actually donate to (non-charity) websites that have a donate page?

I mean, do you? I'm planning to put up a website for free stuff and I was wondering if having a "donate" page or link is really useful. Thanks in advance for all input.

If the "cause" (for lack of a better word) is good, then people will donate. For example, I'll donate to someone who's developing a very fun game or someone who's authoring an excellent web-comic.
