If u have faith on him n EVEN HE HAS FAITH ON U.....Then i think u shud apologize face to face...Just say sorry to him...if hes ur gud frend then he'll understand...but if not tht means u dont have ne chance of getting him more.....
Just tell him tht he is ur closest frend ever....mistakes r done by even god ......but still u r humans......Thrs no need to brk ur frendship just bcoz of a small mistake...now u realizez tht how precious he is in ur life.......

Give him or her maybe some choclates and a card and tell them that you are really sorry for what ever you did. It never hurts to try.
