Go to the elephant sanctuary which is a couple hours from Kuala Lumpur. You will be able to come up close to them, feed them and pat them. You will see them being bathed and you will be able to ride them. Then the baby elephant(s) will be brought down to the river and you will be able to get on them again and ... the rest is a surprise. You'll find out if you visit it 'cos I'm not telling. Children will be able to scrub and bathe the baby elephant.
Just remember that as Malaysia is a Muslim country you have to respect their religion e.g. shoes off in certain places, women to dress modestly. Traffic in Kuala Lumpur is a real pain and the heat can get to you but everywhere is air-conditioned. Food is cheap and scrumptious. And as it is stipulated VERY CLEARLY at the airport from your time of entry into the country - it's death to drug traffikers.
See the fireflies - again a couple of hours from KL - amazing - just like millions of Christmas lights. You go in a boat called a sampan, you are given a life jacket, and the slow paddle up the river will reveal this amazing sight.
Go to Borneo (which is part of Malaysia but a separate island) and stay in one of the eco-friendly resorts. Beware of creeping things that might find their way into your bedroom if you're scared of them but hey, you're in the middle of a tropical rainforest and you've got to expect it. I was lucky I had my husband and two children to help catch it. Go on a trek into the forest along a boardwalk - pretty long and hot so bring plenty of water and a hat - but you see the bats flying out of their cave at precisely 6 pm (or 6.30, I cant remember) to feed. Again, quite amazing. If you develop a repoire with the tour guides, he will be able to suggest or take you on a longboat to some secluded part of the river which is not on the usual route that tourists take - we were taken to near the source of this river and as it got shallow, the boat couldnt go any further. We had to wade the rest of the way which was approx. 100 m over pebbles and stones. It was a good reflexology workout! We swam in the clear ice-cold water. Absolutely fantastic.
Go scuba-diving and/or snorkelling off one of the islands. We went to Pulau Redang which is off the east coast of Malaysia - amazing underwater scenery and fishes.

Malaysia is a great country !

Penang is a great state, George Town has a lovely colonial charm and some of the most gorgeous food you will ever eat.
Batu Ferringhi for the beach, Gurney Drive for posing, a walk in the park and see the biggest butterflies ever !

...and then eat more yummy food !

Kuala Lumpur, a great modern city with everything that entails, great shops and stores, night clubs and fantastic restaurants, eat Nonya foods...(I like Malaysian food..oh, you guessed ) Take the train to Shah Alam, it goes past the Guinness brewery, always a good sign eh ? See the Blue Mosque at night. Eat locally.

To make you feel at home, you will find Walls Ice Cream, Tescos, Debenhams...etc..etc...and nearly everyone speaks English. It has fabulous mixture of cultures and religions, a short trip in any city will see you passing Hindu and Buddhist temples, mosques and churches. The taxi drivers are crazy, China town and the markets are insane, so haggle over everything, you will soon get used to it.

These things I have done, but I would like to see Sarawak, Genting, The Cameron Highlands and the east coast mainland beaches...and much, much more of the jungle !

I love the country.

All those of you who think it is crap, stay away...

There are some great things to do - head for Sarawak and Sabah in Borneo and go and visit the orang-utan sanctuaries- Sepilok and Semengoh. Whilst in Kuching go to Bako National Park. Spend a few details eating lunch with the horny pigs and get blown away by the fabulous scenery. In Kota Kinabalu go and relax on one of the 5 desert islands off the coast and catch up on your snorkelling and diving. Go white water rafting and trekking.

This is your chance to explore the rainforest - enjoy!!

You have to visit Batu Caves which is about a 30 minute taxi journey (costs about £10).
It's absolutely breathtaking. It's actually a Hindu temple but set into the side of a giant rock/mountain face. There's over a hudred steps to the top which are painted red and white and the view from the top of outstanding.
Once you're inside the cave there is the temple but also the rock face which has hundreds of wild monkeys which come down to greet you. They get really close so you can get some great photos.
Definately the highlight of my KL trip, except the shopping!
