It is not cruel at all. You only have to shock them once or twice before they get it. You hit the buzzer first and the next time they stop when they hear the buzzer.

For certain behaviors they are the best tool out htere to train with.
You can get the dogs attention right now even ifyou can not reach the dog to touch it. You can stop on from getting hurt and they are a great tool for deaf dogs also.
If they are misused they are not the best tool. But like any training device that is misused it could cause hurt to the dog.
Look at all the cases of inbedded collars in dogs, does this mean that collars are cruel?

Using a static control collar for training purposes is not cruel. However, this method will not work will all breeds. Especially those with thick hair.

Now if you do not know how to properly train a dog using this method or if its for sh*ts & giggles, then yes it is cruel.

What is "cruel" seems to depend upon where one is at on the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs. ( see quick link above ). The less psychologically / spiritually enlightenment one has achieved, the less one is bothered by cruelty or torture . . . receiving or dishing out. Simply look at President Bush and his torture practices.

yeah, they are. think of your dog as a little child -- did your parents use a shock collar on you to get you to learn when you were little? It just takes a little firmness. A simple and effective punishment for your dog is to simply ignore it completely for a while, or to tap it on the nose firmly and just say "No". It sounds stupid, but it actually works :)

Depends on how you use it. If you put it on its neck and dont overuse, its fine. If you put it on its ba*ls then its more than just cruel.

Only if you're cruel when you use it on them.
