Look what the Victorians and the British empire did with technology and you realise how poorly our advances in technology over its whole spectrum is at the moment. I think we should be doing so much better as a race, we are capable of so much more and all of our lives and the world we live in could be a better place. What do you guys think is holding us back.
I think our voting habits is one reason, governments more concerned with power than governing, which requires money, which comes as donations from companys who want their technology to be making more money than others, and smoke screens within ouyr societys and religions.

I can't blame the governments too far - many of them at least provide a stable environment where we don't need to look over our shoulders for bandits all the time, and stability is conducive to human advancement even if governmental priorities get a bit skewed.

Free market psychology is holding us back. This is the state of mind that assumes the only things we want are more toys, more gadgets, more clothes, a faster car, a new mobile phone etc and that we should only value things that we personally own within our lifetimes rather than collective achievements or long term goals.

This materialist short-term lifestyle is promoted and sold to us by those who occupy the upper tiers of the pyramid of wealth, because they want to profit from our greed. So they can also have faster cars, better toys etc only much better than ours.

The government want to stay in power so they promote policies that will make them popular with the masses - policies that don't get in the way of us acquiring more plastic bits and bobs.

Big advances require vision, large scale investment and the support of a populace who won't whinge about it all being a waste of money that they could be spending on a bigger telly or a new mobile phone.
