I am thinking of buying a snake but i'm not sure which one to get...
I want either a green tree snake or a corn snake, which is cheapest?

How long do each of them grow?

What would be a good sized habitat for a snake, and what should I put in the cage?

How long would it take before they stop bitting?

How long do they live for?

Not including electricity bills, how much does it cost to buy heating for the cage, items for the cage etc...

Like dogs, can you get rabbies or any sickness from a bite?

green tree snakes are alot harder to tame in my experience. they can live for 7 or so years, more or less depending on conditions? if you're gradual and respect them, you may never be bit. you cannot get rabies. you can get glass aquarium tanks for CHEAP, or you can buy one new, but buy a reasonable sized one(30 gallon at least), also required is a heat rock, a big bowl of water for humidity and etc, a good reptile bright warm light, some foliage, a cover for the tank, substrate and a heat rock. This can be 100 bucks or less if you looks for deals, it can be more than 300 if you go all out with crazy decorations and fogger/humidifiers etc. if you get the snake be prepared to have it as a pet through its full life cycle, letting animals go is a bad thing, donating it to someone who wont take care of it is just as bad, these snakes can get several feet and will eat lots and lots and lots of mice in their lifetime, $$$. as far as i've seen the corn snakes are much cheaper, as we have them all over florida where i live, but the food will be the major payout in the longrun, as the slimmer green tree snake wont eat nearly as much .. good luck though, snakes are alot of fun.

Green trees are beautiful animals, but they are NOT for beginners, nor are they very handleable if that's what you're looking for. Corns are easy, tame, and inexpensive beginner snake, and there are a ton of forums and caresheets available online.

As for sickness, only mammals carry rabies. If you get a captive bred animal, the most you have to worry about is infection from a bite, which is not an issue if you wash it out... Also, corn snake bites are superficial at best...

It's been a very long time, but my first son used to keep snakes. We had a number of corn snakes at different times. We used to catch them in the wild. Baby corn snakes had red and white stripes, were very sweet and friendly. Adults would bite when they were first caught in the wild, but their teeth are for grasping not biting so it never really hurt. They would tame down pretty quickly.

The only things I remember clearly are:

Seeing them eat live mice and

keeping their cage warm with a light bulb.

Good luck1

We had a corn snake and she was pretty cool.. They get about 3-4 ft long. They are easy to care for and never bite. They are a very calm snake, easy to handle. I dont know how long they live though..

Don't get the green tree snake if you are a beginner. a corn snake would be a lot easier to start off with.

The best way to take care of a snake is don't get one. They belong in the wild not stuck in a cage.
