Actually everyone thought he was difficult to teach and a bit of a dunce at school,it was only later on in life that he achieved his true worth.
That's why all the photographs of him were taken later on in life.

Good point!!!

But Einstein was not a great student. He used to bunk classes a lot and study on his own. So, he wasnt too popular with the Faculty! But they did mostly realize that he was smart.

After he more or less quit school to get a job because his girlfriend got pregnant, he worked in the Patent office in Switzerland. That was a kind of repetitive, automatic job, so he had plenty of time to think over some problems he was trying to solve, mainly having to do with the nature of light.

Then in one year, he wrote several articles (papers) that were published in scientific magazines (journals). Each one of those papers was so advanced that it took a while for other scientists to even understand what he was talking about. Pretty soon, though, they clued in and he was recognized as an outstanding genius. Each one of those papers was recognized as being one of the greatest comments ever written about that particular subject. At first the other scientists could hardly believe it, that one guy had written so brilliantly about such different ideas. But there he was. He got a Nobel prize just a few years later -- that was very fast because often it takes many years before the Nobel Prize committee is willing to admit that you are a genius!

So, he wasnt too old when he got famous. He dumped his girlfriend (now his wife) and daughter and went off to do his professor thing.

There is a great TV series about this - I think it was like Nova, or Discovery channel. They probably have the tapes at your local library.

Einstein was a genius because he wrote papers that no one else could mark. Only a few could understand them and appreciate them. They were believed only after confirmed by experiment (bending of starlight by our sun?). Now teachers (professors) marks papers of students trying to understand Einstein. E=mc2!!!

Einstein is a genius becasue it is a lot harder to come up with a theory than to check if it is correct!

lol.... you can be a teacher with a calculator.. but that doesn't mean you're a genius. You can be a student without a calculator and the answers in your head... and that's being a genius. :D But yea good point. it's good to question things :)

and i think He proved himself a genius :D with his theories :)

True genius isn't measured in an exam paper but in coming up with an original idea that experts in the field see (once you've come up with it) to be powerful and true.

Academia.

In fact he was expelled from Uni for failing his exams and had to work as a patent clerk. It was only later in life that his theory was developed and received acclaim.
