Do the NBA & NFL have standard transfer fees and salaries for players or is it as unregulated as the European soccer leagues?

NFL and NBA don't work under a transfer fee situation. Players are traded to other teams for other player (occasionally for cash but that is rare.) When a players contract is up they may move to another team on their own.

Though teams may place restrictions on some players and other teams may have to compensate the team he is coming from. It gets rather complicated and is meant to maintain some balance to the league.

Also players join a team to begin with through what is called a draft in which the worse team from the previous year gets first pick of the new college or international players and so on down the line till the previous champion gets last pick and then do several rounds of this depending on the sport.

lol, no. if a player were to go overseas, then the player would have to get either permission from their team, which is hard for them to do. Or, they would be a free agent and go anywhere they want.
