Hi, I'm a college student and in need of exercising my entrepreneurial mind and of course making money. The idea of selling company t-shirts crossed my mind. Can I sell these t-shirts say at a swapmeet. I just buy t-shirts at wholesale and bump up the price? Would this work? Any permits I would need? Do I have to be an already established company to do this sort of thing? I just want to sell some t-shirts that I know will definitely sell out in a swapmeet.

In order to purchase t-shirts wholesale you need a Tax and Sales license (the purpose of buying wholesale is for you not to be taxed for your purchase).
Now, you can buy in bulk without a Tax and Sales license. Did you see that episode of the Cosby Show when Theo brought T-shirts by the bulk, hoping to profit on the sale of those t-shirts? When he opened the box, the t-shirts were all irregular not suitable for sale. Buyer Beware! Just make sure what ever company you deal with has a good reputation of selling quality merchandise.
You may be spending more money for the purchase of the t-shirts than making money at a swap meet. Why not make it more interesting and profitable for yourself. The first rule in selling is to "know your audience". Since you're in college, think of something on your T-shirts that would appeal to the students on campus. And if it sells well at your college, why not try selling at a neighboring college.

Careful, you need to research whether you need a permit to sell, after getting a tax license.
The permits depend on where you intend to sell them. Local court house has info...for free, but you need to do the research yourself.

Otherwise, you could be selling them from jail!

If you have a business law class, ask the professor for free advice that will keep you out of jail!

Otherwise, how about a pizza house...usually near colleges and need help, and you'd have lots to eat! Good luck!

Vending laws vary from state to state. They vary from city to city. As far as being an established company, it does not matter. If you are selling things at a good price, who is gonna care if you are established. If you are giving a company business, who cares if you are established. MAKE SURE THE PRODUCTS YOU ARE SELLING ARE AUTHENTIC if they say on them the are a certain brand. This is especially true if you are selling something along the line of sports teams, or brand names etc; GOOD LUCK

Sounds ok! But to begin, you have to pay for the shirts first!! Winter is coming, and Flea Markets don't do well!!! Unless you sell them in e-Bay!!
