Many an august moons ago, when "photons", encouraged by their energetic leader, Swami Superstrings, decided to take a well-deserved extended Alaskan vacation (in reality a general strike), the good people of India started missing them terribly. ... But the photons refused to come back until the people finally admitted that it was their own ignorance that had made the photons so exhausted in the first place by leaving unnecessary lights on all night. The Diwali tradition began when the wasteful humans eventually decided to change their improvident ways and compensate the overworked photons with sweet colorful treats and candlelight photonic mates of their own.
