He's trying to please Pakistanis and Bush, so he's trying to avoid taking a stance at all.

I don't really think he gives a crap about terrorists. That's why he basically gave them amnesty by saying they could stay in Pakistan if they were peaceful.

I think on the Kashmir issue, it is difficult to pin down what he thinks. I can't imagine he actually cares about it either. But he doesn't want to give in and seem weak. No one likes to lose. And if he could suddenly make Kashmir a part of Pakistan, he'd probably gain some Kashmiri supporters.

He's a guy who's riding a tiger. I would be surprised if he dies of old age. I think he's just trying to do his tightrope dance. Kashmir? I don't know. India and Pakistan have been at it so long it's almost obligatory. I don't see anyone with the vision or guts to quit it. Maybe I'm wrong.

He is an opportunist looking to profit either way. He claims to be Bush's ally because of the favours that may earn him and by his own admission, due to the huge rewards the US govt pays for terrorist arrests.
As for Kashmir, he just cares that Pakistan gain control of it by whatever means. He knows his country is full of extremist muslims- terrorists just waiting to happen. He knows that because they have attempted to assasinate him as well. But at the end of the day he will go for alliances that suit him at the time.

He is really between a rock and a hard place. The US playing him as a puppet; in a balacing act to keep the millitary placated and the populist forces against him. Every new morning gives him just one more day of life.

pakistan and musharraf have both gone to the extents that no one else would have done in curbing extremism....its simply clear and there is no doubt that taliban who were funded by the usa, trained by them and won a proxy war for them are so deep rooted that its a daunting task to now un earth them.....one should not doubt the intentions involved.
