i think you're talking about a tiebreak. it's when scores are tied at 6-6 and it comes down to a play off to see who can get the extra point on the scoreboard. usually it's the first player to reach to 7 points, but if the opposing player is one point behind, the game continues until they are at least two points to get the seven points.

The tiebreak is used in tennis when the score is 6 games all
in the set. The tiebreak is used to determine who wins the deciding game in the set. A tiebreak consist of the following format: One player or team serve the first point, and then the other player or team serves two points. From this point forward, each player or team serves two consecutive points. After six points have completed, the players/teams switch to the other side of the court. They continue to do this after every six points. The winning team/player must win a minimum of seven points in the tiebreak, and win by at least two points. This ensures that the
tiebreak is won because there was a difference of at least one mini-break. A mini-break is when a player/team loses a point on their serve. The reason for this is it ensures that a player/team wins fairly, not because of one player/team will win because they had the advantage of serving first in the tiebreak/minibreak, giving them a better chance to reach seven points first.

The toe break occurs at 6-6, but as to what tie break you perform now that all depends on the location you're playing in as well as under what group you're playing for. In the USTA and ATP Tours you generally run into the 12 point tie break, in certain states and round robins you generally run into 9 point tie breaks, and some state tournaments and school tournaments require the super-tiebreaker.

Its tie break.
When the players have the same points i.e., 6-6, the set goes into a tie breaker. They play till one player scores 7 points and there is a minimum difference of 2 pts between the players. The player who scored 7 pts. gets the set.
