Tips / feedbacks are sought from who have done this earlier. Is it safe and convenient to go by own car and self driving. I have one week for vacation. Is any body else also planning similar excursion. Are terrains too difficult and unsafe to drive.

my dear i have gone there more than 10 times. so beautyful place
i was there last month. you can go by your own car up to rishikesh and you take a local driver from rishikesh , you will get easly there. the reason for that to enjoy sight seeing and while driving you cannot enjoy also they know local roads so it will better to take a local driver from rishikesh.roads are mostly very nice only if rain comes than some patchs or mud will be there other wise it is drivable road . if you need any help you can email me without any fear with pleasure

I can suggest you tips for Delhi - Manali. About Gang/Jamunotri I don't know the route. Pls see that if you can make sumthing useful out of it.

Route
Delhi - Chandigarh - Manali

Distance
570 km

Best Part
This road tests a bikers skills to the MAX! 300kms of plain roads, followed by ghat sections which become challenging as you climb the 7000ft climb to Manali. This route should be attempted only by guys who have decent or good bike touring experience.

Description
This route is one rocking experience. This road grows on you gradually. To begin with, this road is one straight never ending road till a bit further than Chandigarh. One can easily rip the bike consistently on 3 digit speeds. Roughly 50kms after Chandigarh, the ascent to Manali starts. The initial 160km ascent till Mandi reminds you of driving of ghats of small hill stations like Mahabaleshwar. The real fun starts after Mandi. The temperature becomes pleasant and narrow ghats test your biking skills to the max!

Stopovers
Lunch at Chandigarh

Fuel Stations
Lots of fuel stations on the way. Some even accept credit cards.

Tips
I recommend stopping at Mayur dhaba (140kms approx from Delhi) for breakfast. This guy makes awsome parathas. Start by 6 in the morning to ensure that you reach Manali before dark.

. So take care & best of luck for the journey.

yamnotri and gangotri both r long distance place frm delhi . u r riving altro it is ok but the road of delhi and gangotri and yamnotri r different. if u hav idea to drive on hilly area then u can take a chance. frm self driving u hav +ive and -ive both impact.
+ive imact 1. u can better enjoy sight seens2. u can also enjoy driving.3. no tension of transport.4. u can spend more time on your fav place.5. any time u can start travelling.

-ive 1. dangerous for driving in hilly area.2.long distance driving makes u tired may be u can't enjoy your trip.

At the last if u hav confidence and idea to drive there then u willpreffer driving. but its my suggestion pls take adriver also. its make your journey happy and safe.

Take somebody with you - dont do it alone. If you are a good driver then it is not a problem. Most people think they are good drivers but hill driving required special skill. I have driven upto Auli and Dharchula. I know what it takes. Be careful.

Whatever u do, dont go alone.
AND for god's sakes, dont go on a ALTO. It is NOT a all terrian car at all. Take a Innova,Tavera, Sumo or TATA Safari.
