In Ontario, Canada there is a full academic curriculum for kindergarten just as there is for all the other grades. In fact, the curriculum is continuing to grow more rigourous. Kindergarten teachers are NOT babysitters.
Teachers' duties are clearly outlined in the provincial Education Act and they include: planning and teaching lessons in compliance with the curriculum, preparing progress reports, reporting to parents, carrying out duties as assigned by the principal (e.g. supervision).
The union representing teachers in my former jurisdiction expects that its teachers are not responsible for toiletting and medical procedures.
Does this help?

A teacher must have the “Temperament” to understand that attempting to teach without inspiring the pupil with a desire to learn is hammering on a “cold iron.”

Are you talking about kindergarten? They have to teach many life skills: sharing, cooperating, walking in line, taking turns, tying shoes, eating with a fork, etc.
They also teach the letters, basic sight words, colors, numbers, and counting skills.
