Admittedly it seems to be a long way in advance for reminders - but that won't stop it working right up until its expiry date. Assuming your system clock is correctly set, then you can safely ignore these warrnings until closer to the time.

From recollection even if you were to renew now, you would get another year subscription from your expiry date, not from the date you actually pay.

As you will have noticed, many here do not seem to like Norton (a vocal minority?). However, if it works for you and you don't have problems with it, then you're fine to continue with it - you're certainly far better off with Norton than with nothing at all. It also has the advantage of everything in one place (ie firewall, antispyware, antivirus, antispam, parental control etc) rather than having to maintain/update 3 or 4 or 5 different programs to achieve the same goal.

As far as I am aware there is no FREE program that combines all of these functions, although there are other pay-for packages.

The norton system seems to be very good. I have had it now for 5 years. Be sure to get the updates every week unless you get them automatically as I do.
They remind you early as a form of brain washing as they do not want you to even consider any other.
When you do renew check out their on line renewal price first against the cost of buying a new disc from say PCworld. I did it on line last year and the cost was 60+ pounds. The new disc from PC world would have been £25.00. Count anti virus software as a very good investment. I tried for a year without any and eventually spent £100 to get rid of all the worms, viruses etc.

- Check to see if your system time is set to the future by accident. Make sure your computer's date and time is correct.
- Then, go to http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/custserv.nsf/docid/2005090611032646?Open&src=con_ols_nam and follow the instruction synchronize your copy of Norton software with subscription server.

Norton maynot have the best product, they have customer service handled pretty well. Don't hesitate to write them if your problem isn't resolved after following the steps above.

FYI to others.
According to Consumer Reports from last month, Norton is rated #4 as antivirus software behind BitDefender, Zone Labs and Kaspersky Labs.

McAfee is #6

Easy fix: uninstall Norton... install something else... problem solved!

Norton sucks in general. The only program of theirs that I like is Norton Ghost. AVG Anti-Virus works WAY better than NAV and is free.

If you don't feel bad, you REALLY have brought that crap for NOTHING at all. Why didn't you go for Kaspersky or BitDefender? There are even lots of freeware which work thousands times better than Norton. I recommend the following group of software(all free) for nice and trouble free days:
ANTIVIRUS:
AVG(9/10) --- http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg71free_405a791.exe

ANTISPYWARE:
Spyware Terminator(7.5/10) ---
http://www.spywareterminator.com/

SpyBot(8/10) ---
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Spybot_Search_and_Destroy/1043809773/1

SuperAntiSpyware(7/10) ---
http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10564983.html?tag=lst-0-1

1antispyware is never enough. So you should download all these three.

FIREWALL:
ZoneAlarm(10/10) ---

In my opinion, you did. There are much better free security methods and virus/internet protection programs out there, AVG Free from Grisoft for a start; that, anti-spyware, sensible browsing habits, and a firewall is all you really need.

Is it warning you to renew the license or is it warning you to update the virus definiitions? Big difference. I have this program and I get periodic warnings for the definitions. Mine is due December 07.
