The council want to know my employment details as I owe them money. If they arrest my wages will they arrest the whole lot or will they take a certain amount per month?

They wont take all of your money but will look at what you earn and what you have left over after your outgoings, then they will decide - you should go see them - would you really want your employers knowing your personal life? - that's for starts - and if you go see them and get there first - work out your in comings each month and your outgoings - put it all on paper yourself and then offer them a reasonable amount that you can afford - if you go to the offices they will sit down and help you. Don't ignore it though - I did and they sent the arrears to a doorstep collection agency (bailiffs), When they came they wanted the full amount and I couldn't do it so they tried to seize my goods - as they couldn't come into my house they wrote down my car and threatened to come back within 3 days and take my car if I didn't pay the full amount. I went straight down to the ct offices and they even tried to get the account back from the bailiffs but they wouldn't have it - so we reasoned on paying a certain amount each month - if I miss one month I have it hanging over my head that they will take my car and there ruthless they will do it I know. So before it gets out of hand go sit down with them and work something out.

They will have to apply for a "garnishee" I think it is called. They will need the courts to authorise this so you can dispute both the fact and the amount. Have a look here but see your local Citizens Advice Bureau. They are lovely people.
