who asked me very politely for assistance in smuggling $77 million US dollars out of his country. He wrote that he will give me 35% of it, but first I have to wire $10,000 to his bank account in Nigeria. Should I do it?

No. Its a scam!!!!

Use caution and common sense when dealing with any financial transaction:

NEVER wire funds to a distant person, via Western Union or any other carrier!Be wary if the other party wants to use an escrow service such as BidPay or Squaretrade! NEVER give out personal financial information (checking account number, SSN, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)

USE COMMON SENCE and trust your instincts!

If you think you have been scammed, contact the non-emergency number for your local police department -- they may be able to offer advice about your options.

Who should I notify about fraud?
FTC toll free hotline: 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357)
FTC online complaint form (www.ftc.gov)
Canadian PhoneBusters hotline: 888-495-8501
Internet Fraud Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov/)

No.

I have no idea how many people buy into this scam, but a scam it is and you will never see one penny of anything you send these folks.

Delete the e-mail and any like it you receive, including the ones from Russia, China, Chad, Liberia, and any other country.

i have been receiving this kind of invitation from the days when there was no internet. they used to come in letter form. now it is faster with internet. i also know people who did not think it was a scam and have run into serious trouble with govt. officials. beware! there is not such thing as clean easy money.

This scam has been doing the rounds for many years. What it does is not give you money but they get your bank details and steal all of your money. Delete the email immediately.
