How our prophet would have reacted?. He would have simply told wih a smile "Peace be upon you" and NOTHING MORE. This is what all Muslims should say, in one voice. Fatwas and violence will not work any more.
Muslims should realise that this is sort of a ragging. Also, we must be prepared to accept that this will not stop in near future. This has just begun. There will be next...next....next..so on untill they get tired. We must give only one answer.

Your question should read, Why cant Moslems take a joke? Lots of Christains make fun of religion and there are hundreds of funny jokes about Saint Peter. Moslems have to learn to lighten up!

When Muslims react violently it serves a purpose. It gets attention. I guess that as Daniel Pipes says, the basic message is that because of Muslims' violent reaction, Islamic law rules over Westerners too "because you no longer have the privilege to say what you will about Islam, the Prophet, and the Qur'an."
Violence is a fairly effective tactic for stopping "fitnah" (Qur'an 4:95). If Muslims want to live and work peacefully side by side with non-Muslims then they will have to change a lot of ideas about democracy and tolerance.
The pope said, "Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul." After reading the Qur'an, I do not get that same message.

A very peaceful answer, however it lacks a neccesary firmness. I'm sure the native Americans did that and they're on a small plot of land it the north with 1/7000000 of their population dead, unborn, or killed. Their area of land is so small it's been removed from the map and become part of America reserved for Native Americans. There MUST be a firm strong powerful answer with military strength behind it, although I agree that the present riots and reactions coming out are probably too much. But if you simply say "peace be upon you" then Europe and America are going to get some new colonies.

I am as hell offended that they beheaded the Jesus Character but if you can't laugh at yourself, you are just toooooo serious. It's not good to be tooo serious about something.
Edit: I would not start ww3 just because I can't take a joke lightly. I am offended but it keeps me in check that I can laugh at myself to prove I am still human.
