I am looking for a pro bono attorney for a criminal offense. I am not asking about a public defender.

Your best chances of finding a "pro bono" attorney will involve contacting your local chapter of the American Bar Association. The ABA is an organization that every practicing attorney belongs to. They will give you a list of attorneys who are known to accept pro bono work. You should be able to find them in your local phone book.
