math is basically a study of logic. if you can understand math, you can understand logic. if you can understand logic, you can solve pretty much any situation life throws at you.

Basically, maths is for proper quantification without which our life would be quite meaningless.

More specifically,

We might feel he is taller than her but not know how much. Since we would not know by how much, if the difference was very small, we wouldn't even know for sure who is taller. Same for milk kept in two different bottles. In other words, our understanding of the space dimensions would be too qualitative to be quite accurate.

We may feel A takes more time to eat than B but not know how much more. Sometimes we may even be mistaken if both of them take more or less the same time. Thus our understanding of the time dimension too would be too qualitative to be very accurate.

Just imagine what our life would be without the ability to quantify or measure the physical dimentions or time. Our perceptors like eyesight, hearing etc. give us only qualitative knowledge - the knowledge is refined and justified to exactness by logic which in its most basic or abstract form is maths.
