I have a '91Nassan Maxima. And I notice that my O/D OFF light is on. What does that mean? How can I get it corrected before it is too late?

The over drive switch is off. It's usually located on the shifter. It won't affect you car at all. But that's if you drive in the city alot. The overdrive is mainly for highway use and adds a higher gear so the car cruises at a lower RPM and saves fuel mileage. The worst that will happen if you drive on the highway with it off is your car will cruise at a higher RPM and you'll lose some fuel mileage. If your going less than 55 MPH you may get better gas mileage with it off. Then you'll have the ability to maintain speed going up hills and such with out having to depress the accelerator as often and have it shifting to a lower gear,or from overdrive, and keep Switching in and out of those gears.

O/D is overdrive. O/D off means that [surprise, surprise] it's turned off. It doesn't harm the car, but could use more gas. Just hit your O/D button [it's either near your gear shifter, or on the dash somewhere..maybe near your hazard light button] and it should turn off.

Don't worry about it. That just comes on when you go into "overdrive", at higher speeds. Helps save on gas. You want it on when you are at freeway speeds. Off when not. Don't worry so much. Nothing is wrong.
